How yoga has helped me

Image
Yoga. All I can say is that it has grown on me immensely - and I mean that in a very good way.  My journey with it started in June of last year with a 30 day  challenge with  Erin Motz .  I can't even begin to tell you how much this wonderful type of exercise has helped me in my journey to healing and health. Not only has yoga helped my balance and coordination, but I also believe that it has helped aid some of my gut issues that I've been battling for years.  Who would have thought that yoga would help aid digestion!  I sure didn't in the beginning but I fully believe it now.      So, if you've not tried it before, I encourage you to at least look it up and read about the health benefits  that it offers.   Here are a few pictures of this months challenge. Twisted Hover-Lunge - all smiles for day 1! Warrior 3 to Pistol Squat - boy oh boy was this hard! Warrior 2 Push-Up - and my cat Figaro wanti...

I'm back!!

Image
So, I'm back from a most blessed wedding!! :-)  I can't even begin to go into detail of how much fun the trip was.  The Lord is SO good. But first... Before I go into detail (and I'm thinking about maybe doing two wedding picture posts because there is SO much to tell you about), I want to share what the Lord showed me while up there. A few days before we left for this trip I got a nasty cold.  With a trip approaching, the last thing I wanted was to get sick.  My brother was getting married in a week!  Talk about great timing.  I tried with all my human might to stop this thing from coming on, I tried  these  tips that seemed to help slow my cold down but it was stubborn and kept coming despite my efforts.  There was so much to do before we left! We still had tree turkey's to put in the freezer.  Now that's an interesting mix: turkey blood and guts and a queasy, sick me.  Not fun.  But God gave me the streng...

Turmeric coated almonds

Image
I like almonds.   Like a lot. They've become one of my favorite nuts to eat (although cashews come pretty close).   A while back I toasted almonds using turmeric and they turned out delicious!  When my sister smelled them she said that they smelled like popcorn - that's a huge compliment to me because I love popcorn! "Is turmeric good for anything?"  You be ask.  Yes!  Turmeric is SO good for you!  Here are the top ten health benefits of this ancient spice. It helps prevent cancer It helps relieve arthritis  It helps control diabetes  It helps reduce your cholesterol level  It is an immunity booster (this is great for me because of my existing thyroid issues - it's a long story that I'll have to share sometime) It heals wounds - tea tree oil helps heal wounds as well, it draws out infection. It helps manage your weight - YAY for this!   It helps to prevent Alzheimer's Disease  It helps improve your ...

This recipe.

Image
Have you ever had something so amazing you just couldn't believe it?  Have you ever come across a recipe that seems like it's just too good to be true, but isn't?  Well for me, yes and yes! This recipe. Is. Amazing.  I haven't done a post about it, but I've had to change my diet again - for more health reasons - and this time I've had to cut out ALL carbohydrates.  Yes, my life-long love affair with carbs is no more - BUT, I feel much better after having to cut them out.  It was hard to do, but again, I feel  better. :-) If you want the original recipe, click  here .  Seeing as how I can't eat the honey, I changed a few things about this already amazing recipe.    Looks good, right? Ingredients 1 1/2 cups walnuts Pinch of salt 1 cup dates - these are high in carbs, so I have to really limit myself with them 1 tsp vanilla 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 3/4 cups coconut cream a dash of your favorite sweetner...

Mustard - great for burns!!

Image
Burns.  Who likes them?  Not me! I seem to draw getting burned, for it happens to me quite often.  Seriously.  It happened to me this past week.  I was rotating something in the oven when my pot holder (that's what we call them) fell out of my right hand and into the oven; well, this can only mean that my hand went straight to the HOT cookie sheet!  It happened so quickly that I didn't have time to pull my hand away, so I got a nice BIG burn on my thumb - like the WORST place ever for a burn!   I immediately walked to the sink and ran cool water over the effected area.  After about 3 minutes of that I grabbed an ice cube and placed it on my burn, this seems to have "cooled" it down for a few minutes.  I've never had a a burn, well, burn for that long!  It went on for about 2.5 hours!  Ugh the pain!  I felt like my finger was on fire!   So where does the name for this blog come in?  Her...

Natural hair-dye

Image
Back in the beginning of this year I wanted to dye my hair.  I did NOT want to use the kind one buys at the store knowing full well that they are packed with unknown chemicals, such as (I couldn't seem to find any listed ingredients for Revlon or Garnier): *Ethanolamine Propylene Glycol Hexylene Glycol Resorcinol - I read that this stuff is dangerous Toluene 2,5 Diamine That's just to name a few of the unknown ingredients.  Note: It was my choice NOT to choose a store-bought, brand name hair dye.  Personally, I don't like them.  Plus, they give me really bad headaches, and I get mini migraines.   No, thank you!  I wanted to go 100% all-natural.  I don't even remember where I got the recipe for the kind I'm using but I think this is how it goes: Walnut shells - I used about 1/4 cup Ground cloves - I don't even remember how much I used here; maybe 1 teaspoon?? Bay leaf - used just one Cinnamon stick - again, I used j...

Humbled by sores

Image
You may be thinking that the name of this post sounds really odd...but it isn't. A few weeks two "little" sores popped up in my mouth (one on the left side of my mouth and the other on the right side of my tongue. Not the best places, I know!). At first they didn't hurt, but then as the days past, they slowly began to hurt.  Like a lot.  I battled the little rebels for almost a whole week.   I had a hard time talking - and if you know me then you know that I am a talkative person!  I felt like I was being deprived.  One of the ways I feel connected to others is through communication.  And yes, I tend to be very  dramatic - just ask any of my family members and they'll tell you. *winks*  Not talking isn't that  bad, but to me it was.  If any of you (my 4 blog flowers :p) have ever gotten sores in your mouth, and they were so bad that you weren't able to speak, then you know just what I'm talking about.  I...

Sunburned?

It's the time for ice tea, ice cream, BBQ's, front porch sittin', and swimin'.  Ya gotta love summertime!  I do, for sure! =) Now what do all those things have in common?  Sun exposure!  And lots of it! Okay nobody - and I mean no body - likes getting sunburned!  I sure don't.  I always feel foolish afterwards, don't you? My sister and I went to the beach last week with a friend from church and we got burned!  Not on purpose, of course.   We have been using coconut oil as a natural sunscreen and it has been working amazingly...however, it seems that the coconut oil doesn't work - at all, mind you - near water, not sure why, but for some reason it doesn't work. If you found yourself with a little pink hue this summer, here are a few remedies that might help (the first one is a link to natural sunscreen and where to buy): http://www.aubrey-organics.com/Category/40_1/SPF.aspx http://media-cache-ec3.pinimg.com/originals/c8/e6/51/c8e651c...

Natural Deodorant

So it's been a few weeks since my last post. Here is the next thing I am planning on making: All Natural Deodorant. Why? Because the store-bought one I have (Secret - PH balanced, Spring Breeze) is filled with these: Cyclopentaslioxane, stearyl alcohol, C12-15 alkyl bezoate, PPG-14 butyl ether, hydrogenated castor oil, petrolatum, phenyl trimethicone, talc, cyclodextrin, fragrance, mineral oil, behenyl alcohol I copied that list of ingredients off of my current deodorant stick.   I can't even pronounce half of those! Why would I want my body to absorb these foreign things when I don't even know what they are or where they came from? Yes, it has taken me a LONG time to get started and actually  do this.  I had to put my big gal panties on and just do it!  If I like it, that's it.  No going back to store-bought deodorant.  I may try both of these: http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/00aln...

Poo-Free links

First off, I know that I am a little behind on changing the style on my blog, I've been sick this past week. Ugh!  Just getting to it today.   Okay, so because I am in a wedding next month (SO excited!!) I am trying (besides trying to fit nicely into my dress lol) to have clean healthy-looking hair.  A dear friend from our church told me and my sister about going poo-free, and I wanted to try it out.  Here is a quote from the ladies site: It works on the principle that the more oil is stripped from your hair the more oil your body will produce to replace it. It is a cycle. It works something like nursing a baby. The more you nurse the more milk you produce and when you stop all your milk goes away. We have gotten into a shampooing frenzy, shampooing our hair every day to clean it, so we have started an awful “not good for our scalp” cycle with our bodies. Most shampoos are really bad about stripping the oils out of your hair, causing your body to pro...
