From Waiting to Waiting

As I laid in bed one night, the idea of this blog post came to mind. I try to jot down whenever the Lord prompts so here it is.  But first - what's new with ya'll? How have you been? Life for me lately has been rather busy because well...I've met someone. *cue happy dance and praise hands* Eeeek! Can you believe it?! God is so very good!  Who is this man you may wonder..well, he's a pretty awesome fella who shares a lot of the same passions, morals, goals, hopes and dreams as I do. And how we met is pretty cool - another amazing story of how God moves and works out His plan for our lives.  Since the nature of this particular post isn't about how I met Missouri Man, if that is something you are curious about, I can write a separate blog post and give all the fun details. Just let me know in the comments if that is something ya'll want to hear about and I will gladly write that. *winks* Back to the nature of the post: Something the Lord has been teaching me lately...

The in-between

Not long ago, I read this quote (below) that caused me to say, "Yes, Lord. This!" I've shared on here about my longer-than-I-thought period of singleness. I've shared about the ups and downs of navigating this time of my life.  Lately though, I have been wrestling with something that I just couldn't put my finger on.  "Part of what makes waiting so hard is that there's no guarantee - not knowing whether of not you'll ever get whatever it is that you're waiting for. It'd be so much easier to wait if you knew with full certainty that you'd eventually get what it is you're waiting on. The season of waiting isn't simply waiting...it's also wrestling with the reality that you may not just be waiting for something but that the outcome you hope for may never come to be.  But there's a gift in the in-between and uncertainty. In my season of waiting and uncertainty, I had to learn this one thing: not just to trust God for an outcome...

Waiting on the Oven

I like to bake. Actually, I more than like it, I take joy in baking foods for not just my family, but also for dear friends. So, it's fitting that I write a post using baking terms.  When I want to bake something, let's say blueberry muffins (a favorite of mine), they need to bake at 450 degrees. While I am putting all the other ingredients together, it make sense to preheat the oven to the assigned temperature and have it ready for me when I have the batter in the pans.  Call it poor time management or neglect of reading through the directions clearly, but there are times when I "forget" to preheat the oven. What happens then? Well, because I don't discipline myself enough to actually be still  and read trough the instructions, the end results may vary. Instead of waiting for the oven to preheat, I will put the muffins in a stone-cold oven and let them (with the oven) come up to the proper temperature. Again, instead of just waiting for the oven to preheat, I bec...

Waiting Well

"And if not, He is still good." What does that mean to you?  Personally for me, it runs deep. Life is always filled with questions that seem like there is no straight answers to. "What if I made more money?" "What if I took more time off?" "What if I was married/had children?" "What if I took that chance?" The list of questions could go on and on... I started this blog 10 years ago. 10 whole years! That's a long time. While I was not the most faithful of bloggers back in the day, I want to get back into the swing of things now...even if it's a little at a time. I find writing to be therapeutic and I love it. We can learn so much about each other by how and why we write. If you were to have asked me 10 years ago where I thought I would be today, I can assure you that my response would have been something like this: "Well 10 years from now I'll be married with a handful of children. Living in a nice home and raising chi...
