When I Survey the Wondrous Cross - Hymn for July

While the words of this hymn were etched onto my years ago, the richness and truth of this song ring true even more so today.

When I survey the wondrous cross,

On which the Prince of glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss,

and pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast

Save in the death of Christ, my God!

All the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them through His blood.

See, from his head, his hands, his feet,

Sorry and love flow mingled down.

Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present for too small.

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.

What a beautiful song! I encourage you all to take a moment and read about it (click here). Then once you've done that, I would recommend giving it a listen (you can do that by clicking here).

And as you near the end of this short post, I would hope that you would take the time to read the Scripture that I've typed out below. May the words of Truth bring you comfort and joy this day.

-Sarah

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Gal 6:14

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. Psalm 34:2

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. 1 Sam 12:14
