2015 Recap - A fond farewell

Image
This post is 4 times in the making.  Yep, that's right.  Each time I went to type something, EVERYTHING got deleted - major bummer!  My computer is acting up and giving me problems, so I think that may be it.   I had cute little fonts all made up and everything for each month that I was excited to share.  Oh well. The party must go on, right?  Even though this is not what I was hopping  or planning  on sharing for my 2015 list, it's what I have at the moment.  What's funny is that this isn't at all what I had "planned" and yet, here it is.  Just like this year, there were things that I wasn't planning, but have "happened".  I guess my posted getting deleted so many times was (in a way) God telling me that that's not how He wanted me to share this years events.  Funny how God works, isn't it? Also, I kinda am in love with The Last Goodbye (from the Battle of the Five Armies), so I thought I would share the lyrics with my ...

A (late) note of Thanks

Image
I realized that I never did a post about Thanksgiving!  Oh dear, oh dear.  Well, I guess it's better to be than to not be at all, right?  :p Thanksgiving.  Something we should be doing every single day is giving thanks to God for His continued mercies ( not getting what we deserve ) upon His people. Our day of Thanks was long; hard, full of cooking, tons of baking, roasting, cutting and serving, but! it was a good day to rest in knowing that God has given us more than we could ever ask for:  His Son Jesus Christ to die for our every sin.  Isn't that what we should be thanking Him for every single day of our lives here on earth? I am reminded of a song that we sing in church every once in a while, Be Ye Glad.  Have you ever sung it, or heard of it for that matter? In these days of confused situations. In these nights of a restless remorse, When the heart and the soul of the nation, lay wounded and cold as a corpse. From the grave o...

My childhood in songs

Image
Please tell me I'm not the only one who has ever heard of Raffi.  You know, Baby Beluga ? The other day I was looking on YouTube for some baby songs to learn and sing to my niece - I wanted something a bit more different than " Rock a Bye Baby" but not too modern that it wasn't still soft and delicate. Before I share the sweet little song that I'm learning, I must tell you how much I ADORE Raffi and his songs!  I grew up listening to him sing Peanut Butter Sandwich, Brush Your Teeth, Baby Beluga, C-A-N-A-D-A, Frere Jacques, and many more.  His voice was (and is, he still puts on concerts!) very soft and soothing to listen to.  I literary cold fall asleep listening to him sing.  With that, I wanted one of his songs to sing to my niece.  I don't have a singing voice at all, but at that young tender age they don't seem to mind. *winks* My brother and his wife had a western wedding and they both are very horsey.  So when I came across Listen to t...

Happenings in June

Image
It's been a while since my last post.  I apologize.  It seems that since June hit, I've been slam-packed with busyness left and right! My blogging buddy, Heidi shared a fun post about her happenings during the month of June.  Click  here  to read about it.  I enjoyed it so much, I decided to try it out for myself. (And Heidi, I did not intend to copy the title of your June posting.  I completely forgot what your June post was called!  I guess great minds really do think alike. :p) June was jam-packed with Bible studies, yoga, paper-cutting, Les Miserables, and friend/family visiting. I started a new yoga challenge and my sister decided to join me.  Here are a few pictures of our attempts at the poses. Or, forward fold. Please excuse the sweat stains - 'twas hot outside. Talk about a deep stretch! This is supposed to be Peacock pose...yeah it didn't work out. Both legs should be extended back hovering the floor; spor...

Kneading prayer

Image
Not long ago, my mother shared a beautiful way she would pray for people. But before I share her "trick", I wanted to share one. Have any of you every heard of the washing-prayer method?  Someone told me about it long ago and I thought it was a beautiful way to pray for someone. Instead of complaining that there are many dishes to wash, be thankful that you even have dishes to wash - that means you have food, which is more than some can say.   When I heard that, I thought it a beautiful way to remember prayer!  But then I got to thinking, along with being thankful and instead of complaining, why not pray for someone you know (or don't know) with each dish that passes though the soapy suds? After telling my mother this, she told me what she would do. If you know anything about the women in my family, it is that we LOVE to cook and bake.  Part of that, I think, comes from our heritage (German and Italian).  For me, baking is, and can be, ...

Lipstick for Sundays

This post is about my grandparents.  Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever written about my grandparents, or talked about them on this blog for that matter.  That changes today! :) I had/have the some of the most wonderful grandparents ever - I'm sure most of you would say the same thing about your own grandma and grandpa! Google Images Grandpa and Grandma R (my father's parents) were off the boat Italian and I loved them dearly.  I loved the way they spoke in their thick Italian accents; the way both of them smelled, and the way they cooked!  Talk about amazing food!  I loved sitting in their laps and listening to them tell me stories, when in reality, I just loved being close to them.  Whenever my grandpa or grandma didn't know the English word for something, they would hold out their hand and ask, "What'd you call?"  To this day I still use that phrase when I can't seem to recall something and every time I use it I can...

2014 Recapitulation

Image
It ' s that time of year again!  If you missed last years post, click  here  to catch up.  I try and do one of these every year but this year it seemed to just creep up on me without my knowledge ( it didn't help that I've been having major internet problems!). I will be sharing the verses I memorized with each month and what God blessed me with during that month, a sweet memory, or just something interesting I learned!  Enjoy! January  "O praise the LORD all ye nations, praise  him all ye people: For his merciful kindness is great towards us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD." Psalm 117:1,2 The year beings!  My sister and I were extremely busy working.  February  "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105 One year I stopped using shampoo and started using my own, homemade product. P.S. It didn't last long... March...

A memory {tree roots = horse carriage}

Image
One thing my parents encouraged when their children were young was to use their imaginations. And we did.  My sister and I remember countless times when we played outside (back when children still did that!) with just ourselves, our dolls and SO much more. Here is one story about just an ordinary tree root. (I do not have any pictures to go along with these memories.  Someday I am hoping to go back to that place and capture my childhood before it goes away with the wind...) If you were going out of our house and walking down the driveway, about 3/4 of the way down on the left, there was this tree that grew out of the ground on a chunk of earth that was raised above the driveway.  This tree had a root that grew almost straight out; it was curved, like a step.  My sister and I used this as our step into our horse-drawn carriage - we wanted SO badly to own a horse!  But because we didn't, we used our imagination and it became something wonderful. ...
