The Bookshelf Tag

Books.  Reading.  Blogging.  Three of my (many) favorite things to do!  I saw this post by my dear blogging friend, Heidi and thoroughly enjoyed reading her answers to these extremely fun questions!  So seeing as how I love anything that has to do with books, I thought I'd give this a try. :)

Side note: I wanted to post this a while a go, but I've been busier than normal...so that has had me delayed a few days.

There were 2 rules:
1. The book(s) you answer with must be from your bookshelf.
2. Also, if you could include a picture of your own bookshelf, that'd be great!  If not, no worries, my dearies!

The Bookshelf Tag~

Describe your bookshelf (or wherever it is you keep your books-it doesn't actually have to be a shelf!) and where you got it from: My bookshelf is really a pile of books. I mean I do have a bookshelf, but it's not set up (in the process of moving some things around).  Because it isn't right by my bed, I like to keep an ever growing pile of books by my bed - which of course I didn't get a picture of!

Do you have any special or different way of organizing your books? I like to organize by author; size and weight. Odd, I know, but hey, that's me.

This is actually at the top of our school book shelf.
It's quite high and in order for me to take this picture
I had to use some yoga/spiderman moves. ;)

What's the thickest (most amount of pages) book on your shelf?
Les Miserables  with 1,231 pages. The Bones of Makaidos came in second with 676 pages.

What's the thinnest (least amount of pages) book on your shelf? Little Bear's Picture with only 32 pages.

Is there a book you received as a birthday gift? I received two books as birthday gifts: To Have and to Hold, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - both GREAT books!

What's the smallest (height and width wise) book on your shelf? It would have to be these two little books of Christmas Carols. I bought them (for $1 each I think) years ago and with the intent of framing the pages and using them for decoration during the Christmas season...I have yet to do that, but it's on the list!

What's the biggest (height and width wise) book on your shelf? I didn't get a picture of it, but my mother has a beautiful Tuscan cookbook that's quit large and heavy.

Is there a book from a friend on your shelf? If you count my newest addition, Greenwillow, then yes. My blogging buddy/pen pale, Heidi told me about this book and I can't wait to dig in to it.

Most expensive book? I think the most expensive book I bought was The Unofficial Narnia Cookbook. The one that I wanted to buy was over $40, but then I found this little guy and am quite happy with him.

The last book you read on your shelf? The Hound of the Baskervilles - such a GOOD book!  I've come to love Sherlock Holmes!

Of all the books on your shelf, which was the first you read? The Chronicles of Narnia. I found this box set for about $5!  I absolutely LOVE that this "happened" into my lap! :)

Do you have more than one copy of a book? I bought Crandford a while a go but didn't like the cover, so I went and bough another copy.  I forgot that I also own two copies of Little House on the Prairie.
The reason behind my wanting another copy of Crandford is that I wanted a Penguin Classic, and the first copy I bought wasn't that...not too shady, right?

Do you have the complete series of any book series? Let's see...Little House on the Prairie, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hunger Games, and (these aren't my books, but they are on mine and my sister's bookshelf that we share...for now) Dragons in Our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and Children of the Bard.

What's the newest addition to your shelf? Greenwillow by B. J. Chute - I was able to find a 1966 hardcover copy! So excited!

What book has been on your shelf FOREVER? It's either To Kill A Mockingbird or Short Stories of Sherlock Holmes.  I haven't read either, but they are now on my new reading list of books to conqueror in the year two thousand and fifteen (not sure why, but I felt like spelling out the year...)

What's the most recently published book on your shelf? Omega Dragon which was published this year.

I'm hoping to finish this book sometime this week.

The oldest book on your shelf (as in, the actual copy is old)? A few years a go I went antiquing with my best friend and I happened upon A Little Rebel by The Duchess (Margaret Wolfe Hungerford).  The book was published in 1890 - and no, I'm not kidding!  This copy that I have is dated "1895".  I think the book cost me $2...score!!  I found a cite where you can read the entire book...click here to read more.

I can't seem to make out the name ("Wald Dear...?"), but the date
clearly says "1895". It's hard to see the "95" but it's there.
And right before that, I'm not sure what it says ("Summer 1895"?).

The pages are SO very delicate!

A book you won? My sister (Abigail) and I won an unpublished copy of Bryan Davis' The Seventh Door through an online contest.  It's the first time I've EVER won anything and was BEYOND excited!  We got to proof read the book before it hit stores - how awesome is that?!

A book you'd hate to let out of your sight (aka a book you never let someone borrow)? This is hard...let me see...it would either be  A Little Rebel I mentioned above, or Keturah and Lord Death. My problem is that I want other people to read the book, but I just can't seem to part with it!

This isn't my copy - mine does't have this cover - but isn't it romantic?
I've come to learn that this painting is called "The Kiss".

Most beat up book? An old copy of The American Girls Handy book. It's in at least three pieces.  After it started to fall apart, I went and bought myself a newer copy for my Hope Chest.

Most pristine book? Omega Dragon and Les Miserables. This book (Les Miserables) is so new, right before I took the picture I peeled off the price sticker!

A book from your childhood? I have several of these, but seeing as how I must pick only one, Miss Rumphius takes it.  My mother read us this book more times than I can count!

A book that's not actually your book? The Count of Monte Cristo. This book actually belongs to my whole family...and then The Unofficial Narnia Cookbook...I bought that for my sisters...

A book with a special/different cover (e.g. leather bound, soft fuzzy cover etc.)? I wish I did have a leather bound book, but sadly I do not...oh wait!! I DO own a leather bound journal!  I can't remember where on earth I put it, but I do own one.  It was one of the first things I bought while traveling in Italy with my family.  We were walking around the Amalfi Coast when I saw this little whole in the wall with all these handmade journals and such. It's precious to me and I love it.  The color is that of dark, dark (almost purple) red and it smells old.

A book that is your favorite color? I don't have a favorite book color, but I do have a favorite book cover - does that count?  Okay wait.  I went and checked and I do have a color that I like AND a cover that I adore.  The color: My Utmost for His Highest. Favorite cover: North and South.

Book that's been on your shelf the longest that you STILL haven't read? Wives and Daughters. This is on my to-read list!

Any signed books? Bryan Davis' Omega Drand and The Seventh Door.

This book was a Christmas gift from my sister to us. :)
Again, this was SO much fun!  I encourage you to do this as well, for I'd love to see your tags.

  3. Your friendship has been such a blessing in my life as well! :) To God be the glory!

I am SO glad that you enjoyed The Hound of the Baskervilles - it was such a good story; I was at the edge of my seat with every turn of every page.
Ah, the painting! I first found out about the painting through a history book and it quickly became a favorite. There are some paintings that just scream "Tell me your story; let me unlock your mysteries!" "The Kiss" was one of them.

As of today I am on the 3rd chapter of Greenwillow and I must say that I am enjoying it. I'm in love with the cover! I am hoping to catch up on Shadow on the Mesa tonight - I too have an extremely full week and that has delayed us finishing it. But yes, we do like it so far. Was it a book before a film?
I look forward to your email - have a great rest of the day!
    Hugs!

Oh, yes, I know! That painting is so inspiring. Generally I don't tend to come up with story ideas for that period, but that one is so intriguing I may have to eventually. ;)

Yes, SotM was a book before a film. I glanced at it briefly a while ago and I'm not sure if I'll ever read it or not, but maybe sometime. The author actually wrote the film script, so I think it's pretty fun that he worked out all the changes/adjustments! :)

    2. I did read that, Heidi, about the author writing the film script - that makes it better! :)
